Usability Professional. HCI Professor. UI/UX Expert. Computer Scientist.
Hello. I am Simon Nestler.
I am a Computer Scientist as well as an Usability Professional.
I graduated at
Technische Universität München (TUM)
with a diploma in
Furthermore, I made my Ph.D. in Human-Computer-Interaction at
School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) on
"Design, Implementation and Evaluation of User-Interfaces for life-threatening, time-critical and unstable Situations".
My thesis was supervised by
Afterwards I was employed at
as an User Experience Engineer.
Since 2011 I am a Professor for Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI); from 2011 to 2019 at Hochschule Hamm-Lippstadt (HSHL), since 2019 at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI).
My research focuses on safety-critical Human-Computer-Interaction.
Thus, I am collaborating with various researchers, institutions, organisations and companies.
Since 2009 I am a member of the program committee of the workshop on IT-Rettung at the INFORMATIK conferences (last workshops: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017). Since 2014 I am a member of the organisation committee of the workshop on Mensch-Computer-Interaktion und Social Computing in Krisensituationen at the Mensch & Computer conferences (last workshops: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
In different large research projects (e.g. SpeedUp and Interkom) I collaborated with partners from science (e.g. Fachgebiet Augmented Reality at TU München, Interkulturelle Wirtschaftskommunikation at FSU Jena, Fakultät für Mathematik und Informatik at FSU Jena, Computeranwendung und Integration at Universität Paderborn, Robert Koch-Institut and Institut für Feuerwehr- und Rettungstechnologie at Stadt Dortmund), industry (e.g. Navimatix GmbH, Agilion GmbH, diva-e AGETO GmbH, TAF mobile GmbH and PRO DV AG) and practice (e.g. Universitätsklinikum Jena, Universitätsklinikum Ulm, Ministerium für Inneres und Kommunales des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, Landeszentrum Gesundheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rettungsdienst at Hansestadt Stralsund, Feuerwehr at Stadt Gelsenkirchen, Feuerwehr at Stadt Bochum and Feuerwehr at Stadt Essen) in order to design and develop interactive systems for crisis and emergency situations.
I am a member of
GI (Gesellschaft für Informatik),
a network of computer scientists which develops the scientific discipline and promotes the impact informatics has on economy,
business and society. Since 2018 I am a GI
the junior fellowship supports young talents ideational and financial.
Additionally I am a member of the GI Fachbereich Mensch-Computer-Interaktion, which coordinates all activities on Human-Computer-Interaction within the GI. Moreover I am a board member of the Fachgruppe Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion in sicherheitskritischen Systemen (FG MMI-SKS), which focuses on using interactive systems within safety critical contexts.
I am a member of various organizations and communities on HCI.
I am a member of
ACM (Association for Computing Machinery),
the international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology.
Additionally I am a member of
ACM SIGCHI (Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction),
the international society for professionals, academics and students who are interested in human-technology & human-computer interaction (HCI).
Last but not least I am a member of the German UPA, the largest community for professionals in the field of User Experience (UX) and Software Ergonomics (Usability) in Germany.
